The 2010 Joint Meeting will feature CE classes, exhibits, contributed posters and papers, and a variety of invited speakers. This year’s invited speakers are Nadine Ellero, Keith Frey, David Rothman, David Levy and Connie Schardt.
Dr. David Levy will speak on Friday, January 29 at 8:30am. In his speech titled “No Time to Thinkâ€, David will point out that the whole reason why we spend time streamlining, automating, and speeding up our workflow isn’t to work more – it’s to make time for important things computers can’t do, like thinking. David argues that our fast-paced world doesn’t allow for time to think deeply, the time when we come up with our best ideas and most important insights. Watch David’s talk at Google last year on the Lifehacker website.
Dr. Levy is a professor at University of Washington School of Information and also the author of No Time to Think. He holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University in computer science (1979) and a Diploma in calligraphy and bookbinding from the Roehampton Institute, London (1982). For fifteen years (until December 1999), he was a member of the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where his research focused on the nature of documents and on the tools and practices through which they are created and used. His current research focuses on information and the quality of life. His book, “Scrolling Forward: Making Sense of Documents in the Digital Age” has just been published.
